COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING FOR APRIL 2017: The meeting this month has been brought forward by one week due to the Easter Bank Holidays.  It will be held on Tuesday 11 April 2017 at 6:30pm in the Little Acton Community Centre, The Green, Little Acton, Wrexham, LL12 8BH.  The meeting will start at 6:30pm and the Agenda can be obtained by contacting the Clerk or by clicking here.

ACTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL - YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING: The next meeting of the Youth Committee will be held on Tuesday 28 March 2017 at 6:30pm in the Little Acton Community Centre, The Green, Little Acton, Wrexham LL12 8BH.  The Youth Committee will receive a quality and evidence report as detailed in the Service Level Agreement for the Detached Youth Work Pilot Project and review progress to date.  It will also receive an update report on the preparations made for the Youth Work Pilot Project due to commence on 1 April 2017.  The agenda and papers for the meeting can be viewed by clicking here.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING ON TUESDAY 21 MARCH 2017: This meeting of the Community will be held in the Little Acton Community Centre, The Green,  Little Acton, Wrexham, LL12 8BH. NORTH WALES MAGISTRATES’ RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN 2017/18:  Have you ever thought of becoming  a Magistrate?  Magistrates hear over 90% of criminal cases ranging from assault and criminal damage cases to drink driving and football offences and many more.  The attached poster gives information about open days being held around North Wales as part of HM Courts Service to recruit Magistrates during 2017.  The Wrexham Magistrates’ Court Open day will be held on Thursday 9 February 2017 bewtwen 4:00pm and 7:30pm.  The closing date for applications is Tuesday 28 February 2017.  For more information please visit:  www.gov.uk/become-magistrate   

ACTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL - YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING: The next meeting of the Youth Committee will be held on Tuesday 31 January 2017 at 6:30pm in  the Little Acton Community Centre, The Green , Little Acton, Wrexham LL12 8BH.  The Youth Committee will be finalising the arrangements and agreements to enable the Pilot Youth Projects across any of the five Acton Community Wards to commence as soon as practicable.  The agenda and papers for the meeting can be viewed by clicking here.

PRECEPT FOR 2017/18: Acton Community Council has held its precept at £125,000 which is the same level it has been at since April 2014.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING FOR DECEMBER 2016: The meeting will be held on Tuesday 13 December 2016 at 6:30pm in the Crèche Room of Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB.  The Community Council will be considering applications for financial assistance and its budget requirements for 2017/18 and setting its precept.

ANNUAL REMEMBRANCE SERVICE - SUNDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2016: The Chair and Vice Chair of the Community Council will be laying a wreath on behalf of the residents of the Acton Community at the RWF Memorial during the Annual Service to be held at Bodhyfryd, Wrexham.

PARKING AND ROADWORK PROHIBITION - AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM COUNCILLOR DAVID BITHELL LEAD MEMBER FOR ENVIRONMENT AND TRANSPORT: Wrexham Council is working hard to encourage as many visitors as possible to Wrexham town centre during the Christmas period.  To this end it has introduced free parking in all council owned car parks in the town centre between 1st and 31st December.  We hope this will maximise the amount of time visitors can spend in the town centre to help local traders make the most of this trading period.  The Council has further agreed that there will be no roadworks (except for any emergency works that may be required) on all routes into the town centre to avoid possible congestion into and out of the area.  

COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING FOR OCTOBER 2016: The meeting will be held on Tuesday 18 October 2016 at 6:30pm in the Crèche Room of Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB. ERLAS VICTORIAN WALLED GARDEN –There is currently a public consultation taking place to support a “Create Your Space” bid for funding of the future plans for this Garden.  There will be a series of evening talks between 4pm and 6pm hosted at the Walled Garden, Bryn Estyn Road, Wrexham LL13 9TY on Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday 24th, 25th and 26th October, with light refreshments.  The Charity that runs the Walled Gardens is also opening its doors between 10am and 12 noon on Saturdays 22nd and 29th October, when people can pop in and have light refreshments with a walk around the gardens.  For more information see the Charity's website: www.erlas.org

COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR VACANCY:  The Community Council has a casual vacancy in its Borras Park Community Ward which it intends to fill by co-option.  This Public Notice is being displayed on the Public Notice page of the Community Council’s website and on the Public Notice Board at the Council’s office.  Please note that the closing date for receipt of expressions of interest is NOON on Tuesday 11 October 2016.  The Community Council will proceed to co-opt and fill the vacancies at its meeting to be held on Tuesday 18 October 2016.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS AND AUDITOR'S CERTIFICATION FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2016:  The Community Council has now published the above Statement and Certification on its website and on the main Community Council Notice Board located in Acton Community Resource Centre, Overton Way,  Wrexham, LL13 9JY.  a copy of the information can be viewed online by clicking here. 

ACTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL - ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE MEETING: The first meeting of the Environmental Committee will be held on Tuesday 13 September 2016 at 6:30pm in the Crèche room at the Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB. The Environmental Committee was appointed in May 2016 following the Council’s decision in December 2015 to increase the Community Streetscene Budget for 2016/17 to £5,000 to provide for environmental works in each of the five wards of the Community Council. The Environmental Committee is tasked with:

1) Considering costed Environmental schemes up to the value of £1,000 for each of the five Acton Wards ( namely - Acton, Borras Park, Little Acton, Maesydre and Rhosnesni); and

2) Making recommendations to the Council on how the budget should be spent in each of the five wards.

ADOPTION OF REVISED MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT: In accordance with the provisions of The Local Authorities (Model Code of Conduct)(Wales)(Amendment) Order 2016, Acton Community Council at its Annual meeting held on 17 May 2016 adopted the revised model code of conduct thus meeting its obligations under the Order in advance of the 26 July 2016 deadline. A Public Notice was inserted in the Wrexham Leader on Wednesday 13 July 2016 to comply with the provisions of section 51(6) of the Local Government Act 2000

SCREENING FOR LIFE:  This is an annual campaign run throughout July by Public Health Wales, Screening Division. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the national screening programmes in Wales. This year’s focus is breaking down barriers.

THROW A BLOOMING GREAT TEA PARTY IN AID OF MARIE CURIE:  The North Wales Marie Curie Fundraising Office is calling on people to hold a Blooming Great Tea Party between 20-29 June and support the charity which provides care and support for people living with a terminal illness.

If you like baking the perfect cake, hosting a Blooming Great Tea Party is all about the right ingredients – nice cuppas and naughty cakes, old friends and new faces, bad jokes and good conversation. It's all about having a blooming great time while raising money for a blooming great cause. You can get your free fundraising pack at www.mariecurie.org.uk/teaparty with bunting, invitations, posters, quiz questions and recipes to download.

Marie Curie provides free hands on nursing care to patients diagnosed with a terminal illness in their own homes as well as vital emotional support for their families and carers. In North Wales last year, 58 Marie Curie nurses provided care to 1,179 terminally ill people in their homes, usually overnight. £20 pays for a Marie Curie Nurse to look after someone with a terminal illness for an hour in the comfort of their own homes; £180 will pay for a full nine-hour shift. SPRING HALF TERM YOUTH ACTIVITY DAY: Come along and meet your Local Police team on Thursday 2 June 2016 between 10.00am and 12.00 noon in the Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB

There will be lots of free activities to try including a free Community Coffee Morning, Kids Crafts, and an Indoor Bowls taster session.  Please note that all children aged Under 8 must be accompanied by an Adult.

FORMER COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR JOYCE DUDLEY: Acton Community Council has been saddened to learn of the death of its oldest and former long serving Councillor Joyce Dudley, aged 98.  She was a valued and active member of the Community Council for twenty nine years until her resignation last year due to her failing health.  She gave a lifetime of service to her Community.  She was a Community Champion who served on many voluntary organisations such as the Girl Guides, Trefoil Guild, Community Health Council and Nightingale House.  She was also well known for her work with the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Age Connects and other charity work.  She will be greatly missed. 

DOG CONTROL AND DOG FOULING, PROPOSED PUBLIC SPACE PROTECTION ORDER CONSULTATION: Wrexham County Borough Council are currently undertaking until 26 June 2016 an informal public spaces protection order consultation on dog fouling and dog control across the County Borough Council area.  The views of dog owners, park users and other residents are sought as Wrexham County Borough Council examines its options over the move from dog control orders to a Public Spaces Protection Order, due to changes in the law. Wrexham County Borough Council will seek the opinions of residents and pet owners over the change from dog control orders to a Public Spaces Protection Order. The council plans to change its three existing dog control orders – covering regulation on fouling, exclusion and dogs under control by direction – with a single Public Spaces Protection Order which will cover the entire County Borough. TESCO BAGS OF HELP FUNDING: Groundwork  North Wales is encouraging schools and community groups  across North Wales to apply for a grant of up to £12,000 to improve green spaces. More information is attached. ANNUAL MEETING: The Annual Meeting of Acton Community Council will start at the later time of 7:00pm on Tuesday 17 May 2016. The meeting is being held in the Creche Room at Acton Resource Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham, LL12 7LB. Members of the press and public are always welcome to attend and observe the Council meeting and should follow the signs through the building to gain access to the Creche Room. Tea and Cake Table top sale:  ACT (part of ChristChurch Wrexham) invites you to come and join their celebration of the Queens 90th birthday at Acton Community Resource Centre on Saturday 21st May, 1:30pm – 3pm. CHARITY SPONSORED WALK  ON SUNDAY 8 MAY 2016 AT 2:00PM: The Wrexham Hospital League of Friends are organising this walk around Erddig Park which will start and end at the Visitor Centre at Felin Puleston, Ruabon Road, Wrexham.  All proceeds will be used to provide specialist equipment for  the Wrexham Maelor General Hospital.  A Poster for the event can be found by clicking here.

OPEN SATURDAY MEETINGS TO LOWER PARK FARM CO-OPERATIVE: A general invitation has been extended to the residents of the Acton Community to attend an open meeting to visit and tour an operational on-farm Anaerobic Digester plant to see how the farm waste from 650 dairy cattle is processed to produce electricity, heat and fertiliser as a closed-loop nutrient cycle, operating constantly 24/7.  The tour allows residents to see first-hand how AD works, how the greenhouse gases are captured and turned into electricity and heat, also how the electricity and heat produced is utilised as a mini district heating system – serving the farmhouse, businesses, shops and offices on site.  The Co-operative’s aim is to put rural communities back in touch with agriculture and sustainable energy for the benefit of all.  It has been established locally as the UK’s first Community–based renewable energy Co-operative:

FORMER COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR OLIVE SIMM: Acton Community Council is saddened to announce the death of its longest serving member.  Councillor Simm was a member of the Community Council from its creation in May 1985 until her resignation last year due to ill health. She was champion of Young People and worked tirelessly in the Acton Community to ensure there was a Youth Club and other provision for them. She will be sadly missed by Members of the Community Council.

 ACTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL - YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING: There will be a meeting of the Youth Committee held in the Acton Community Resource Centre on Tuesday 2 February 2016 at 6:30pm to consider the final report to 31 December 2015 for the 2015/16 Service Level Agreement and to determine the provision for Young People in the Acton Community from 2016/17 onwards. SECURITY & CRIME PREVENTION - PUBLIC MEETING: The North Wales Neighbourhood Policing team and your local community and local Councillors invite you to a public meeting at the Acton Community Resource Centre on Thursday 21st January 2016 at 7pm.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the small amount of recent Burglaries that have occurred on the ‘Fairways and Goulbourne’ estates, and any other concerns that you have about security and crime prevention.

Your local police officers and local Councillors are hoping to provide help and reassurance and to discuss how you can keep your home and belongings safe and reduce the possibility of you becoming a victim of opportunistic crime.
