Co-option onto the Community Council and Casual Councillor Vacancy:  At its 15 January 2019 meeting the Community Council co-opted two persons onto the Council to fill its casual vacancies in the Maesydre and Acton Park wards.  There is now another casual Councillor vacancy in the Borras Park ward and the Public Notice advertising it can be viewed by clicking here or on the Council’s Notice Board at the Acton Community Resource Centre

2018 NEWS

COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR VACANCIES: There are two casual vacancies in the office of Councillor for the Acton Park, and Maesydre Community Wards. Expressions of interest are again being sought from members of the public interested in representing their Community and who meet the relevant qualifications. Certain people are disqualified from standing, and these include paid officers of the community council, anyone subject to bankruptcy restriction orders and those subject to recent sentences of imprisonment.

The closing date for receipt of expressions of interest is NOON on Monday 14 January 2019.The Community Council intends to proceed to co-opt and fill these vacancies at its meeting to be held on Tuesday 15 January 2019. Anyone who submits an expression of interest will be invited to attend and give a short 2/3 minute address to the meeting in support of their application.

PRECEPT FOR 2019/20: Acton Community Council at its December 2018 meeting considered its budget and spending proposals for the next financial year and set its Precept at £148,500; this is a £3,500 increase on the Precept from 2018/19 and equates to an extra 74p per year for a band D property in the Acton Community. 

New expenditure for the Community Council in 2019/20 includes taking over the cost of the repair, maintenance and inspection of the children’s Play area in Acton Park from Wrexham County Borough Council - without this commitment from the Community Council, the play area was in danger of being removed. 

The Community Council precept funds a weekly outreach advice service from the Wrexham Citizens Advice Bureaux.  Any resident from the Acton Community is able to visit the Acton Community Resource Centre between 9.30am to 12.30pm every Wednesday to access this service.  The Community Council is also providing a free open access Youth Club for any Acton Community young people aged 8-13 and 14-18 years old in the Acton Community Resource Centre on a Wednesday evening.

COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR VACANCY: The Community Council has a casual Councillor vacancy in the Acton Park ward. The Community Council agreed at its meeting on 20 November 2018 to take the necessary steps to advertise and fill the vacancy. A Public notice is now being displayed at the Guildhall, on the Council's Notice Board at the Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way Wrexham LL12 7LB and on the Public Notice page of the Community Council’s website.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING FOR November 2018: The meeting will be held on Tuesday 20 November 2018 at 6:30pm in the Training Room at the Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB.  Members of the press and public are welcome to attend and observe the Community Council’s meetings.  On arrival please follow the blue signs through the building to the Training Room which is on the right just past the main reception area.  Seating for observers is provided to the right of the door.  The Council will, as part of the agenda, receive presentations from the North Wales Police Wrexham Town Inspector; representatives of Homestart and the Wrexham CBC Play Development Officers will be presenting their final report on the Borras Park Play Sufficiency assessment.  The agenda for the meeting can be viewed by clicking here

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING - TUESDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2018 AT 6:30PM: The Community Council at this special meeting to be held in the Training Room at the Acton Community Resource Centre will consider its current budget, commitments and spending proposal implications for 2019/20 together with the implications of the determinations contained in the 2019 Draft Report of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales.  The agenda for the meeting can be viewed by clicking here.

ACTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL - YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING: The next meeting of the Youth Committee will be held on Tuesday 30 October 2018 at 6:30pm in the Little Acton Community Centre, The Green, Little Acton, Wrexham LL12 8BH.  The Committee will receive  receive performance monitoring reports on latest quarter’s performance and operation of the Service Level Agreements with the Caia Park Partnership to provide a Youth Work project for 8-13 year olds and a Pilot Project until 31 March 2019 for one session of Youth Work per week for Young people aged 14 to 18 years at the Acton Community Resource Centre.  The agenda and papers for the meeting can be viewed by clicking here.

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL -25 SEPTEMBER 2018:  This one item meeting has been called to allow sufficient debate to review the Service Level Agreement with Wrexham County Borough Council to part fund the running costs of the Acton Community Resource Centre. The press and public are expected to be excluded from this meeting as the debate will include sensitive information about the commercial operation of the Centre.

Security and Crime Prevention Event – evening of Thursday 6 September 2018: Acton Community Council is supporting a Security and Crime Prevention Event being held with Owl Cymru and Trading Standards.  During the evening advice, information and other items will be handed out to raise awareness, assist members of the local community to ensure their homes are secure and the steps that can be taken to ensure personal safety and avoid becoming a victim of fraud. 

The event will be held on the car park of the Borras Park Shopping parade from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday 6 September 2018. All members of local community are invited to attend.

SUMMER EVENTS AT ACTON PARK - SEASONAL PARK RANGER:  The Community Council has funded the cost of providing a part time ranger at Acton Park during the summer and a number of events for the public will be held in the Park.  The attached Leaflet gives more information about the events that have been planned.

PRE-PLANNING CONSULTATION FOR HOLT ROAD/DEAN ROAD OPEN SPACE:

The Community Council received notification on 18 June 2018 from Agents acting on behalf of Glyndwr University of a 28 day consultation period as part of its "Campus 2025" proposals and its intention to submit an outline planning application for the erection of up to 77 dwellings together with vehicular/ pedestrian access from Holt Road, open space which can be used with adjoining land to the west to create a formal sports pitch, site landscaping, sustainable drainage and other related infrastructure

The closing date to submit comments on this pre-planning Consultation to Glyndwr University is 16 July 2018. The Community Council will be holding a special meeting on Wednesday 27 June 2018 at 6:30pm in the Acton Community Resource Centre, Overton Way, Wrexham, LL12 7LB to prepare its response to the proposed planning application before the Consultation deadline. ACTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL – JUNE 2018 MEETING: The next meeting of the Council will be held on Tuesday 19 June 2018 at 6:30pm in the Training Room of Acton Community Resource Centre, Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB.  The Council will receive an introduction and outline from the 2018 Seasonal Park Ranger of the summer activities and events planned in Acton Park.  The Council will also be considering any expressions of interest received from persons seeking to be co-opted onto the Council to fill the casual vacancy in the Little Acton ward.  Members of the press and public are always welcome to attend and observe at the Council’s meetings.  The agenda for the meeting can viewed by clicking here

UPDATE FROM ANNUAL MEETING: The Community Council is pleased to announce that it has appointed Councillor Kevin Roberts, Community Councillor for the Little Acton ward as its Chairman for the forthcoming year and Councillor Paul Jones, a Community and County Borough Councillor for the Maesydre  ward as its Vice Chairman. 

ANNUAL MEETING: The Annual Meeting of Acton Community Council will start at 6:30pm on Tuesday 15 May 2018. COMMUNITY COUNCIL’S STAFFING COMMITTEE: The meeting will be held on Tuesday 24 April 2018 at 6:30pm in the Training Room of Acton Community Resource Centre, off Overton Way, Wrexham LL12 7LB.  The Committee will be formulating recommendations to the Council on the provision of additional resources to support the Clerk and to ensure the Council has capacity to meet the new and existing challenges within the sector.  Members of the press and public are expected to be excluded from the meeting due to the nature of the discussions involving Employments matters.  The agenda for the meeting can viewed by clicking here 

NORTH WALES CITIZENS PANEL:  The attached poster gives contact details for anyone interested in becoming a member of this panel which encourages residents from across North Wales to get involved and have their say on health and social care services across North Wales.  This is a virtual panel so there are no meetings for people to attend and citizens can get involved in any way they wish. The Panel has  a Facebook page (North Wales Citizen Panel), a website (www.llaisygogledd.wales) and Emma Pugh, Coordinator of the North Wales Citizens Panel is able to come and see people to discuss the various Consultation and go through the questions.

COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR VACANCIES: The Community Council is seeking to fill the two casual Councillor vacancies in its Borras Park and Little Acton Community Wards by co-option.  Public Notices are being displayed on the Public Notice page of the Community Council’s website and on the Public Notice Board at the Council’s office.  Please note that the closing date for receipt of expressions of interest is NOON on Monday 16 April 2018.  The Community Council will proceed to co-opt and fill the vacancies at its meeting to be held on Tuesday 17 April 2018 when all qualifying persons who submit an expression of interest will be invited to give a short address in support of their application before the vote is taken.
