GRANTS FOR LOCAL ORGANISATIONS IN THE ACTON COMMUNITY: The Community Council due to the lockdown and impact of the pandemic is actively inviting groups, clubs and organisations that are based in or work within the Acton Community to complete an application form for financial assistance by no later than 1 December 2020.  The Council will be considering all applications received at its December 2020 meeting.  See the Financial Assistance link on the left hand toolbar on the Council's home page for more information and to download an application form and  the Policy guidance notes

COMMONS ACT 2006 - SECTION 15(1) FORM 45 / LAND KNOWN AS DEAN ROAD PLAYING FIELD: The Community Council has been informed that an application has been made to Wrexham County Borough Council seeking the inclusion in the register of town and village greens of the land included on a plan.  Any person wishing to object to the registration of this land as a town or village green should send a statement of the facts on which the objection is based to the Commons Registration Authority, Wrexham County Borough Council, Guildhall, Wrexham LL11 1AY on or before 4 December 2020 (Application VG14A).  A Copy of Form 45 and the plan can be viewed by click here:  Form 45 Commons Act 2006 S15(1) Land known as Dean Road Playing Field Wrexham

AVOW UPDATE 27 JULY 2020: WREXHAM COMMUNITY SUPPORT RESPONSE TO RECOVERY STAGE FROM COVID: EASY-ACCESS TESTING FOR PEOPLE IN COMMUNITIES ON THE EDGE OF WREXHAM TOWN CENTRE:   Mobile testing units are being introduced this week to make it easier for people living in communities on the edge of Wrexham town centre to get a Covid-19 test.  The easy-access testing facilities will be based in Hightown and Caia Park for several days starting from Wednesday 29 July 2020.

As well as making it easier to get a test, the move will help public health experts get a better understanding of the situation in Wrexham. Residents living in these areas are being encouraged to get a test if they think they have symptoms…no matter how mild.

The work is being coordinated by Public Health Wales, Wrexham Council and other partners, with support from local voluntary sector organisation AVOW and community groups. Just like in other parts of the country, the testing stations will be managed by the army.

WREXHAM FOODBANK:  The Community Council recently gave an exceptional £2,000 financial donation towards the unexpected costs incurred in providing additional foot parcels to residents of the Acton Community as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic.  The Foodbank has issued an information flyer which explains how the Foodbank works and how eligible residents in Acton are able to access the food parcel vouchers.  Click here to view the Wrexham Foodbank's Information Leaflet

 

BORRAS PARK CP SCHOOL – PRE-APPLICATION CONSULTATION TO 20 JULY 2020: Wrexham County Borough Council is asking residents in Borras Park and Rhosnesni, those whose children will attend or are attending Borras Park CP School and anyone who would like to attend the new Welsh medium School in this area to take part in a pre-application consultation that is currently taking place.  The proposals for the school consist of the refurbishment and extension of the Borras Park CP’s school’s junior building to accommodate the English medium and the refurbishment of the infants to create a new Welsh medium primary school.

Once completed, responses to this consultation will be considered and may form part of the formal plans for the site. LITTLE ACTON WARD - COMMUNITY COUNCILLOR VACANCY:  The Community Council has a casual Councillor vacancy for the LITTLE ACTON  Ward.  Expressions of interest are invited from members of the public interested in representing their Community and who meet the relevant qualifications.  The law disqualifies certain people from standing and these include paid officers of the community council, anyone subject to bankruptcy restriction orders and those subject to recent sentences of imprisonment.

The closing date for receipt of expressions of interest is NOON on Friday 12 JUNE 2020. The Community Council intends to co-opt and fill this vacancy at its meeting to be held on Tuesday 16 June 2020. Anyone who submits an expression of interest by this deadline will be invited to attend and give a short 2/3 minute address to the meeting in support of their application.

CORONAVIRUS - ACTON OUTREACH ADVICE SERVICE:   Acton Community Council pays for an Outreach worker from the Wrexham Citizens Advice Bureaux to come along every Wednesday morning to the Acton Community Resource Centre to provide advice and help to residents of the Acton Community.  The Resource Centre is currently closed indefinitely due to the nationwide lock down.  Alternate arrangements have been made for Acton Residents to be able to access the Outreach Service by a separate telephone number.  For more information please click on the following link:    Acton CAB Outreach telephone contact poster during lockdown

UPDATED 16 March 2020: EXTENDED PUBLIC CONSULTATION ABOUT THE FUTURE OF LITTLE ACTON COMMUNITY CENTRE: Wrexham Council will close and demolish Little Acton Community Centre unless Acton Community Council takes on a long term lease.  In principle we would like to ensure the future of the building because it serves a vital role for local residents.  However, we need to know how much community support there will be for the retention of the Centre. Your feedback will prove invaluable to us.

The Public Information and Consultation event that was originally planned be held at the Little Acton Community Centre on Saturday 21 March, 2020 has been cancelled. The postal address is Little Acton Community Centre, The Green, Little Acton, Wrexham LL12 8BH

This Consultation period is being extended beyond Friday 27 March 2020 until after the Covid Crisis has allowed everything to return to normal. REVIEW OF ELECTORAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE COUNTY BOROUGH OF WREXHAM: The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales have completed the first stage of their review of Wrexham and have published a set of draft proposals.

The proposals expected to be in place for the 2022 local council elections in Wrexham, will see the County Borough Councillor numbers for the Acton Community increase from the current 5 to 6 – along with changes that would see the Acton and Maesydre wards being combined into a single ward.

The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission are inviting comments from 14 January 2020 until 6 April 2020. After that point, the Commission will consider submissions and then prepare final proposals to put forward to Welsh Government who may then ignore, adopt or adjust the ideas.

2019 NEWS

REPORTING ON SECTION 6 - THE BIODIVERSITY AND RESILIENCE OF ECOSYSTEMS: The Environment (Wales) Act 2016 introduced an enhanced biodiversity and resilience of ecosystems duty (the section 6 or s6 duty) for public authorities in the exercise of functions in relation to Wales. The s6 duty requires that public authorities ‘must seek to maintain and enhance biodiversity so far as consistent with the proper exercise of their functions and in so doing promote the resilience of ecosystems’.

The Community Council falls within the definition of a Public Authority and has a Duty to report on what it has done to maintain and enhance biodiversity by the end of December 2019.
